WHO IS AT CAMP?

Campers and counselors come from all over North Dakota to spend a week at Camp ReCreation! Among the many new faces you will see at camp each summer, there will be several familiar ones as well. These are just a few of the many people involved with camp each year.

Lisa Lawrence

Position: Board President and Program Director

Years of Camp: Over 39 Years

Your why? Camp is more than a place- it’s a community where hearts feel at home. It creates a powerful sense of belonging for both campers and counselors. A space where everyone can truly be themselves and know they are unconditionally loved. There is a wonderful feeling of God’s presence- in the laughter, the prayer and the connections made.

Camp teaches humility and humbleness, reminding us to serve one another and to see the value in every person. It creates lasting friendships, contagious smiles and an abundance of hugs. Why camp? Because it shapes hearts, strengthens faith and creates a place where everyone belongs.

Danelle Dahlke

Position: Board Member and Director

Years of Camp: “Since I’ve been old enough to walk” but in a leadership role since 2008

My Why: Being a volunteer at Camp ReCreation has filled my cup from many different avenues. The joy, smiles, hugs, and laughter that roam through the halls each June fills my heart all year long. The sense of community, family and friendship that’s born at Camp has lifelong impacts for everyone involved. Seeing volunteers come who are a little shy at first and continue to come back and volunteer for a few years who then make a career out of serving others, shows the impact that Camp ReCreation has on young volunteers throughout the community.

DeEll Jordre

Position: Board member and  Financial Director

Years of Camp: Since 2002

Your why?  “Seeing the excitement in our campers and feeling the genuine love that fills camp each summer is what keeps me returning. It’s a place where joy is contagious and hugs n’ high fives are endless!”

Shelly Meyhoff

Position: Board Member, Teacher and Task Force Director

Years of Camp: Over 10 years

My Why: My favorite parts of camp are watching the faces of the campers when they arrive and see their friends from previous years. I volunteer at camp because I love to watch the interactions between the campers and counselors, and I enjoy being a part of that.

Brian Rodgers

Position: Board Member and Director

Years of Camp: 6 years

Your why? The chance to see the joy that camp brings to all those involved, campers and volunteers alike. Seeing the face of Jesus in all those associated with Camp ReCreation.

Kim Rebel

Position: Board Member and Camp Nurse

Years of Camp: 25 years

My Why: Seeing the excitement on the campers faces when they arrive.

Ashley Rebel

Position: Board Member and Director

Years of Camp: 19 years

Your why? I started with Camp ReCreation as a counselor in the summer of 2007 and have proudly served Camp since then in various positions and ultimately ended up on the board. I was nervous to step into to Camp ReCreation with not knowing what to expect but my nerves quickly melted with the first hug from the first camper that walked through the door. The Campers are the reason I keep coming back year after year. The friendships, excitement and love that is shown through campers, staff and all involved radiates through the hallways and it makes all the hard work worth it.

Father Boniface Muggli

Position: Board member and Chaplain

Years of Camp: 45 years

My Why: My favorite part of the camp is the campers, and the staff, who have such enthusiasm, returning year after year, remember you even if you meet somewhere else. It changes everyone who comes.

Emma Goetz

Position: Camp Director

Years of Camp: Over 8 years

Your why? I love Camp ReCreation because it’s a place where everyone is celebrated exactly as they are. They joy, resilience and genuine connection I witness and experience is truly what continues to bring me back.

Merry Hoff
